The by product of taking the oil from the bean is actually used as animal feed. While soy candles seem to be a great alternative to using fossil fuel derived paraffin wax. some of the selling points soy wax candle sellers use to sway consumers are part or wholly untruthful.
such as...

They produce no soot?!

Not possible. no organic compound can burn without some sort of soot expulsion. because of what is called incomplete combustion, which is caused when anything happens that results in the flame being disturbed. Soy candles do in fact produce white soot, it is sometimes not visible. In the event that the candle was not properly prepared, or is burnt, black soot may appear. Soot is nothing to be afraid of, and is actually also given off by some electric kitchen devices such as toaster.

Soy candles have their limits though. 100% soy candles are limited to jar and votive candles and small tarts because of the softness of the wax. But what about those impressive 1' pillars you love so much?! this is where soy and other waxes must coexist, or where additives are used to make the wax stand on its own.

no scientific facts have been found to determine that paraffin is detrimental to our health or that soy is more safe. Soy is simply made from a renewable source.some call it "Green"
